Viewing Tamil
This page is written in English to enable viewing in a computer without support for Unicode Tamil.
Viewing the Tamil articles in this blog requires Unicode Tamil to be enabled in your computer.
The steps to be followed for enabling Unicode Tamil is (slightly?) different for different operating systems.
I am giving the steps to be followed for Windows XP. The steps are somewhat similar in Windows 2000. Indic languages are enabled intrinsically in Vista. Older operating systems like Windows 98 do not support Unicode.
- Open Control Panel
- If control panel is set to Category View (shows “Pick a category” as the heading), then
- select “Date, Time, Language and Regional Options”
- Click “Add other languages”
- If control panel is set to “Classic View”, then
- Double-Click “Regional and Language Options”
- Select “Languages” tab
- Check the option “Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)
- A message box with the title “Install Supplemental Language Support” will be shown.
- Click “OK” to return to “Regional Language Options”.
- Press “Apply” or “OK” (You may be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD into the drive)
- Reboot the machine and you are done!
